Jewellery Based on Your Personality
Mother's Day and International Women's Day are both important dates to celebrate and honour the inspirational women and female figures in our lives. While Mother's Day is a day to recognize and appreciate the love, sacrifice and hard work of mothers around the world, International Women's Day celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women and promotes gender equality.
Here at Powells Vintage Jewellery we would like to celebrate and honour the wonderful women who work at Powells by showcasing jewellery that empowers who they are! Powells believes jewellery is not just about adornment but also a reflection of one's personality, style and identity.
Join Carly (Mrs Powell), Jenny and Jenna as they highlight jewellery pieces that resonate with their unique personalities and empower them to express themselves authentically.

How would you describe your personality?
My personality is different in different aspects of my life but overall, I’m a happy, grateful, laid-back person. As a mother and wife, I like to stand side by side with my husband and show our boys that woman can be strong as well as kind and nurturing.
How does your personality influence your jewellery style?
I'm very open minded so I see beauty in many different styles. We have beautiful vintage and antique pieces through the door daily which can be put with modern or Classic clothes wear.
What characteristics do you tend to look for when shopping for jewellery?
I’d say the main characteristic in my jewellery pieces are very simple and elegant. Which are so versatile and go with everything I wear.
What is your favourite piece of jewellery in your personal collection and why?
My favourite piece is my engagement ring. It’s a 2-carat cushion cut solitaire on a platinum band, and I LOVE it.
Has working with vintage jewellery impacted your jewellery style or shopping habits?
I love the vintage side of the business as I think the sustainability is very important and it’s so impressive to understand the sheer amount of work that went into a handmade piece that is over 100 years old. I always keep this in mind when shopping for jewellery.
What is your current favourite piece of jewellery we have in stock?
My favourite piece in the shop at the moment is an internally flawless 1.79 carat, D coloured, diamond solitaire necklace. It’s so beautiful to see such an incredibly perfect stone.

How would you describe your personality?
As many people do, I feel like my personality has changed over the years, but one thing that has remained consistent is my passion. I am passionate about all areas of life whether that be work, pleasure or the causes that I believe in. I have never been one to sit on the side-line but prefer to get involved in learning and experiencing as much as I can.
How does your personality influence your jewellery style?
I see jewellery and style as expression of our personality. In the same way personality is multi-faceted, I love that jewellery can be layered or changed to reflect who we are on any given day. My passion for learning and new experiences means that day to day I am often busy meaning that I prefer jewellery that will elevate my outfit in a classic but practical way. However, I am always on the hunt for jewellery pieces that are a little bit unusual for when I am feeling adventurous with my style.
What characteristics do you tend to look for when shopping for jewellery?
I absolutely love finding pieces that are classic with a twist; which is why my vintage collection is growing so rapidly at the moment. Vintage jewellery transcends trends which is why it’s so easy to find a piece of vintage jewellery that represents your individual style. I personally am always keeping my eye out for unisex pieces of jewellery. I have a penchant for tailored clothing, which I feel is really complimented by this style of jewellery.
What is your favourite piece of jewellery in your personal collection and why?
My favourite piece of jewellery in my personal collection is a vintage black sapphire cluster ring that my mum gave to me. Like so many of us I have a soft spot for sentimental jewellery! We all have days in our lives that feel difficult, and it can be very empowering to have a piece of jewellery from someone you love. Which is why I love it when I see people come into Powells Vintage to have their jewellery resized or repurposed that has been given to them from someone they love.
Has working with vintage jewellery impacted your jewellery style or shopping habits?
Working with vintage jewellery has completely shifted my mindset! In the past I was guilty of choosing gold plated jewellery and inevitably being disappointed when the gold wore away! Not only was this disheartening, but I felt very guilty about the fact that this type of jewellery was so unsustainable. Now I much prefer to invest in jewellery that I can keep forever. I also love it when my friends ask me where a piece of my jewellery is from, and I can say it’s from a completely different era!
What is your current favourite piece of jewellery we have in stock?
For me, it would have to be the Cartier Santos watch. I’m a big fan of mixing metals and this amazing timepiece contains both white and yellow gold, which can really make the layering of the two hues feel more cohesive. It’s a unisex piece that would finish off every outfit I own and it’s a piece that won’t be around for long!

How would you describe your personality?
I would say I am independent with an outgoing lifestyle. I enjoy being creative at any opportunity.
How does your personality influence your jewellery style?
I would say even though I am independent and adventurous, I am more of a reserved and quieter personality which is reflected with my more minimalistic and dainty jewellery choices.
What characteristics do you tend to look for when shopping for jewellery?
Put briefly, many things! I firstly look for quality and comfortable pieces to wear. I look for petite pieces and anything with a floral design always catches my eye. It’s always a bonus if it comes with a story or age.
What is your favourite piece of jewellery in your personal collection and why?
My pink tourmaline & seed pearl drop pendant. This was my first piece purchased at Powells gifted to me by my parents. It is the oldest piece of jewellery I own, dating back to the Victorian era and adds a touch of colour to any outfit.
Has working with vintage jewellery impacted your jewellery style or shopping habits?
Yes, as my first job in a jeweller, Powells has completely influenced my jewellery shopping habits. Before, I would just buy costume jewellery however now I have learnt the quality and value in fine pieces. I now love having statement pieces which have a personal meaning which I can wear again for years to come. I enjoy jewellery from all eras with my favourite era being the Edwardian period.
What is your current favourite piece of jewellery we have in stock?
I like the Tiffany watch due to it's classic and vintage style. It can be worn for any occasion as it can be casual in the daytime and elegant for the evening.
